Top Tunes This Month

When I drive to and from work, the one thing that makes sitting helplessly in traffic bearable, is music. And since it's been half an eternity since I last gave you some listening material, I figured this would be the perfect time to do so.

Let's start with one of my total feel good songs. It has a tendency to wake me up in the morning while driving to work: Two Doors Cinema Club - What you know

This is such a happy tune, you don't have any other option than to go with it. I've been discovering quite a few indie gems ever since a friend showed me 8tracks.com so if you want ready to go playlists by mood,genre,season...basically anything, that might be the place for you.

This next one is a 2 in 1 thing. First up it's one of my favorite running songs, and secondly it always reminds me of running at night in London along the Thames, passing Big Ben, St Paul's, London Bridge...just perfect!
Daft Punk ft Pharell - Get Lucky

This next one is, remarkably enough, one of my favorites. And because I even know who wrote it and sings it *wink wink* I'm kinda even more fascinated that I like it this much. You're always critical about the things you're close to, but gosh darnit, I love this thing! There, I said it!
So if you're into discovering great new things, I think this one is right up your alley:
Joanna Kaze - Primrose Hill

As far as quiet things go, I've come to the conclusion that Sigur Ros is pretty unbeatable. I've only truly gotten into them this year, even if I knew many of their songs before. But what they do is just one grand piece of serenity.
I'd usually tell you to listen to Saeglopur since that is my favorite song of theirs, but I have been listening to this one excessively lately and have come to realize that it is also really great workout music...surprisingly enough.
Sigur Ros - Rafstraumur

And last but not least, the song that is so stuck in my brain that I do not foresee it moving anytime soon:
One Republic - Counting Stars

I'll go ahead, be honest and say I typed "one direction" before realizing that was the wrong "one". Those kids are everywhere...I'm ashamed they've even almost gotten a place on my playlist.

And, I have one last treat, a super cool EP that is free to be listened and that also contains one of the songs that made it in my favorites from this post. There's 4 songs in total, but I'd dare say they are pretty awesome.

So, did you guys enjoy my current song likes?

Top Tracks Of The Month

This month has been pretty full of new songs and a couple I've been dusting off and playing a lot. Basically, the way I pick my new worthy songs is: Can I run on them?
Of course there are usually many more criteria but since, once spring is here I finally can go running outside again, it plays a pretty big part in picking favorites.

Best example is the following song. I has the perfect rhythm to go with great running. When I'm outside I obviously don't time myself, but when I'm on the treadmill I can see my speed and time and with this song, I've been going on insane speeds without my lungs breaking. This qualifies as my ultimate running song.

*Some of these you will need to watch on Youtube as they don't want to be embedded
Click on each to see which one works that way*

Macklemore - Can't Hold Us

Then, once summer happens, I go into a feelgood music phase that needs to have a proper groove in songs. The following two songs are pretty much the definition of that. Especially the Daft Punk one, that has probably been specifically created to get that 70s sound back.

Daft Punk Ft. Pharrell Williams - Get Lucky

Naughty Boy - La La La

Then there's a song I have on replay at work. It's basically one of those songs that makes you get things done. As far as motivating tunes go, and songs that make you feel pretty badass and powerful, I don't think there's many that can top this one. It's also a good one when you're pissed off, as it somehow makes the anger dissipate, which is the complete opposite of what you'd expect from it.

Prodigy - Poison

The next song is all kinds of interesting, because it has a good rhythm but it's clearly not a cheesy pure dance song. If you watch the video you'll actually see a message in it but it also seems to be happy go lucky if you don't focus on content. It can basically be listened to in any mood.

Rudimental - Waiting All Night

The following song is one of those things where it's a feeling that dominates. And I'm really liking the feeling of this tune. I remember listening to it when the weather wasn't playing along and it really made things nicer.

Bastille - Pompeii

And actually there is one more song that will ruin my perfectly rounded Top  but I'll include it anyway. Not sure why I like this one but it's got a nice vibe to it that fits with spring and summer. For some reason the melody of the chorus is quite good and that whistling is spot on. Now for the rest...I could live without it, but I mean, why not?

Ke$ha - Crazy Kids
($ee, I even wrote it grammatically correct)

Time For Music: The Spring Playlist

I was planning a totally different post and then I put on some Sara Bareilles and started grinning. The result of the whole thing being that I was reminded how much music can do and how I seem to have ignored the whole part about songs during the creation of this blog.
So I'm going to make up for it. That's why I'd like to give you a bit of a feel good/ spring/ energizing playlist.
It would only be right to start with Sara Bareilles and the song that drastically changed my mood.

Sara Bareilles - Uncharted

She makes such great music and I simply picked this particular song because it had a very wide grin as an effect. I recommend you listen to her first album, Little Voice to hear how talented this girl is.
In case you don't know who she is, think a bit back to that song called Love Song that went "I'm not gonna write you a love song, cause you asked for it, cause you need one, you see....."

PSY - Gangnam Style

I feel like I need to justify why I'm listening to this, but come on, this is such a happy go lucky nonsense kind of song that you can't help but do that weird dance each time it comes on. There is a reason it has hit and passed the billion mark on Youtube, it makes you want to see it again, if for nothing else, then at least to see the magnificently senseless video it has.It has been a solid cheer-up song for months now.

Yelle - Que Veux Tu

The song and this band in general are my feel good source extraordinaire. This particular remix I heard by accident and I'll admit it's the first remix I like more than the actual song. The first time I heard of Yelle was when they were the opening act at a concert I went to back in 2007 and they were absolutely brilliant.
Been following them ever since and I'm glad they did.
Let's make this truly beauty blogger and say they're the best thing to come out of France after Vichy.

The Ting Tinges - Great DJ

One of my classical feel good songs. Hey, I didn't claim you'll find them fresh new beatZ (yes, with a z) in this post, but I can guarantee you'll be left feeling a little bit better by the time you're done listening.
I'm a bit disappointed that The Ting Tings seem to have disappeared a bit these past few years because that first album they did was a really nice one.

Mika - We Are Golden

Let's face it, Mika is a little rainbow bundle of joy by default, isn't he?
To this day, I'm quite the Mika fan and if you ever have the chance, and want to come out smiling, I suggest you go see one of his concerts because it's a colorful blast of everything happy, with a little twist.

I was thinking if I should post any another song, after Mika probably got your limbs dancing on their own, but in case you want to cool down and still keep the smile, here's a couple of songs to finish up.

The Naked and Famous - Young Blood

and

Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks

I remember a friend having this as a ringtone much before it became hyped and the whole reason I gave the song a chance was "oh this guy's name is Mark Foster, like the swimmer. That's funny."
Goes to prove us former swimmers have impeccable logic.

Hope you liked what I had to offer. Yes, they're not brand new songs, but I still enjoy the feeling they give me and will come back to listen to them time and time again. Maybe you found a new favorite in here too.
Some other likes of mine that can provide this kind of nice feeling include Robyn, Marina and the Diamonds, The Temper Trap, I Blame Coco ( who is actually Sting's daughter),Calvin Harris, Wham! (yes Wham!) and a whole lot of 80's music.

What are some of your favorites? I'm always up for listening to new music
