Keeping It Organized

I always wonder how people keep their essentials stored. For me, especially because it has been and still is very hot outside, it means fewer essentials than usual.

But I will show you where I keep the things I use on a daily basis and that I sometimes need to grab quick.

I'm using a pretty small wooden box that has initially been created for something else, to be more exact, for holding this egg.

It's a pretty egg, of course, but I'm going to be subjectively objective and say that my stash looks so much better in it. I believe we can all agree on that.

Fiber Mascara: CHANEL Vs. MAC Vs. EYEKO

The time has finally come for me to talk about the thing I love most: Fiber Mascara
I discovered it about 4 years ago when I was out shopping with a friend.Passing by the Chanel counter he suddenly said: "This! You have got to try this!"
I had no idea why it was supposed to be so spectacular, but since I had been let down by most of the mascaras until then, I figured Chanel would be a good pick.
I had no idea what would happen!
The moment I put that mascara on, I saw beautiful long lashes that felt perfectly naked and light!
Obviously, at that point I had no idea why that was, I just assumed  the people at Chanel were Mascara Geniuses.But after a bit of research, I realized it was the "fiber" part of the mascara that made it so great. And that's how this love story began.

The sad thing about it is, each mascara I ever loved got discontinued.

First it was Chanel, then MAC changed the formula of their Fibre Lash mascaras and then.... they discontinued it last year. Which sent me on a quest for a replacement that I found in the Eyeko Fat Brush. So far so good, but God I hope they don't think about discontinuing it!

Let's start with the beginning,shall we?

Like I said, the reason I started loving fiber mascara: Chanel Volume + Length
For a long time, I considered this to have the perfect brush. It applied the mascara evenly, did not clump (no fiber mascara clumps, actually) and I never felt my lashes more natural. I still think it is one of the best brushes ever, the problem is...it's no longer available. Boo-hoo

This is the little guy who beat the Chanel brush. To this day, it remains my favorite mascara.
To start off, it had the most beautiful smell! I'm a sucker for anything that smells nice and will be instantly repulsed by anything that doesn't, as you may have seen in the post about my beauty NO-GOs.
Not to mention that it came off incredibly easy! I didn't even have to use any make-up remover sometimes. It was so rich in fiber that you could literally rub it off your lashes. You'd be left with little fibers on your fingers and no mascara on your lashes. This was very useful if, for example you'd forget you were wearing mascara (like I sometimes did) and would rub my eyes. No smudge and no proof of my little mishap,just fibers on my fingers.
Another amazing thing was that I actually grew new lashes while using this mascara. They say fibers nourish your lashes but I was a bit skeptical. After using this mascara though,I was fully convinced!

When I first saw this brush I instantly said "Oh No!" , but I clearly reacted too fast. With a modified formula, but still rich in fiber, the brush made absolutely no difference. The mascara looked just as great and did a good job. Sure, it wasn't as good as it's discontinued brother that I was swooning over above, but I trusted MAC that they knew what they were doing. I was sad I couldn't rub it off anymore and be left with little fibers on my hand, but it came of just as easy with cleansing lotions.
The sad part is...this too got discontinued. I was told  the False Lashes  s the new and improved Fibre Lash , but I didn't see much of the "fiber" in it. Maybe I'll give it a try one day though.

Which brings us to the present:

Eyeko, my lovely!  I think this is a classic case of  the more you use it,the more you love it !
You can read all of my swooning in the post I did about it,the day after I got it. But I will say, I have gotten even more impressed since then. I've mastered the art of using the Eyeko Shield (you can see what that is in the same post ) and my lashes are looking gorgeous!


Why Fiber Mascara?

• First up, the fibers hug your lashes making them longer and thicker.The "fibers" are micro-fibers of nylon, rayon or silk which attach themselves to your lashes making them fuller and longer.
• The fibers actually nourish your lashes and you will never have any lash fallout with them. Mine actually grew most while using the first MAC Fibre Rich Lash version. It was incredible!
• It never clumps! Because of the fiber formula, it will not clump, as it is not a thick paste you're applying, but fine lines of micro-fiber that work individually to add volume and length to your lashes.
• It never smudges! Again, because of the formula that is more fiber than liquid, you will not have this mascara ever be runny or start smudging. It stays put wherever you place it.
• Your lashes will look natural and never feel heavy. I love fiber mascaras mainly because of the natural look they give. I've been asked several times "You're not actually wearing mascara,are you?"

Here's a comparison I did for MAC Fibre Rich Lash and Eyeko Fat Brush  a while back, just to show you how beautifully natural your lashes can look. Would have loved to show you the Chanel and the MAC Fibre Rich, but those have been emptied a long time ago.

My Absolute Beauty NO-GOs

I think all of us have our pet peeves when it comes to beauty and beauty products. I'm sure each of you has at least one of those things that will make you go OH NO! and will result in making you less than happy.
Well,so do I.That's why I made a list of the things I really dislike, be it the attributes of a specific product, the frustration that some others give,or simply things that I cannot believe can happen to someone who says they like beauty and like to take care of themselves.

To the right, you can see my TOP 6 "Please don't!"s, starting with my personal frustration and obvious incapacity of applying mascara when you give me a rubber brush and ending with the cringing that always happens when I see people walking around with chipped nail polish, or even worse, just a bit of nail polish remaining on their nails!
I'm going to go into detail with each of them as we go along, and I'm going to be very curious what your pet peeves are, once I'm done.

Rubber Bristles on Mascaras and Plastic Hairs on Brushes

They wanna make me use all those things but I said No,No,No!

1. I mean it! Don't give me a mascara that has rubber bristles. I might not be good at applying it, or my eyelashes simply don't fully understand its good intentions, I really do not know, but I can tell you that my lashes never look good when such a mascara brush touches them. They end up clumpy, stuck together, and all in all not too pretty. I always get a feeling that they are super heavy and it's very uncomfortable. I've tried. I've tried time and time again to give it one more try, but it just doesn't apply right. Sorry rubber bristles, but I don't like you.

2.  I suspect I'm not the only one who isn't a fan of plastic hairs on brushes that you are supposed to apply your make-up up evenly with. It never works. The powder doesn't stick well, it does everything but apply it evenly and when you clean it, it's like cleaning saran wrap. Once again, I'm sorry but you are not touching me again.

3. I'm a big fan of lip balms but when I opened this therapeutic little fellow I felt like I just entered a housewife's living space during spring cleaning. It smelled like orange toilet cleaner mixed with bleach and some other chemicals I can only imagine carpets are being cleaned with. This thing has never touched my lips simply because the smell put me off so bad that I couldn't even imagine letting it come in contact with any part of my body.
It's especially disappointing when you look forward to using a product and the smell is just so bad that it robs you of any and every joy you might have had. Not funny.

4. Has THAT ever happened to you? If you have long hair like me, then I'm pretty sure it has. You're just minding your own business, trying to get that hair in a pony tail as tight as possible so it doesn't move when you run to where you have to be in 5 minutes and BAM! your trusty hair elastic pops open and becomes double in size and close to breaking. Hair is not gonna sit well and you know it can and will break when you least need it to.
The imminent death of the elastic is one of those laws that Mr. Murphy would have mentioned if he would have been a woman, I am sure!

and last but not least

Inefficient Razors and Chipped Nails

5. We've all been there: jumping in the shower in the morning, grabbing the new razor we have just purchased and having high hopes that it will work with us as a perfect human-razor team, like the higher powers had intended it. Ah, but not so fast! Razor has other plans! You do a first shave just to find that half of what shouldn't be there is still there. You do another shave to find that the other half is now somewhat gone, but your skin is looking at you and asking why you've attempted to kill it. At this point, all you want to do is take the razor and throw it away, all the while wondering why can't you just do your job?

6. If you want to make me cringe, you just have to show me chipped nails and someone wearing them proudly. Still can't fully understand how someone can have no problem with the polish on the tips having  long left the building.
I intentionally chipped off my tips in the photo above and took the polish off immediately after, just in case you were wondering. The things we do for art, don't you think?

In my opinion, a manicure is done so that nails can look well-groomed and neat, not so hat they look even worse than before. I also have problems seeing nails with just a splat of color left somewhere in the middle of them. For me, it's just not pretty. Keep it tidy or take it off.

Eyeko Fat Brush Mascara

The time has come to swoon over Eyeko. As I mentioned,I had gotten my order from them a couple days a go and I was very impressed when I saw they threw in an extra FAT Eye Stick in petrol blue,which by the way,is super creamy and easy to apply and work with.Blue eye liners may not be my thing,but I might give this one a shot. And as I  was saying in my other post,I find their packaging so so cute!

I ordered this mainly because I am obsessed with fibre mascara. I love fibre because it makes my lashes feel naked,and not heavy at all. It also gives them a natural look and it's good for them. What can you want more? After my favorite MAC Mascara got discontinued,I started searching for a replacement and so I got to Eyeko.
Thus came the time to test!

The mascara came with an Eyeko Shield.It helps the application and prevents smudges on your lid.And so it did.
This is the little magic tool. I might try to use it as a guitar pick too,just to see if it works :p

 


Here's the magic mascara.

 

It's called Fat Brush for a reason.That brush is really fat! The downside is that it takes some getting used to in maneuvering it.For the record,it is the biggest brush I've dealt with so far,but thanks to the Eyeko Shield (which I'm gonna need some training with too,before I use it to its full potential) it does manage to cover the entire lash,even the tinier fraction amongst it.

All in all,I like it! It gives my lashes the natural look I was aiming for,keeps them feeling super light and long. Gonna need to get used to the brush,but once I do,I'm sure my lashes are gonna look even fluffier.

Eyeko has landed!

I am super excited! My Eyeko order is here! Eyeko makes some great mascaras and ever since my favorite mascara got discontinued (I'm gonna post all about my luck with discontinued mascaras), I was researching what could replace it. I got the tip from Eva Chen , beauty editor for Teen Vogue, and thus a reliable source, methinks. Cannot wait to tell you all bout it and show you what it can do,but guys,how super cute is the packaging!
