50 Shades of Monday Blues

When I decided to do ombre nails, I figured it would be practical to make them blue, for the sake of Mondays. But then I had to take a moment and wonder if I even had the proper blue polishes to pull it off. I mean, I tend to get a lot of one similar color, like say, stock up on mint and neglect everything else. To this day for example, I still have no proper fiery red and I always tell myself to not forget and go out and get one.It has still not hapened and I've been planing it for about a year now.
But nevermind, I was glad enough I had 5 shades of blue that could make the gradient happen.

And for this to be created, the following have been used:
(thumb to pinky)
- Essie Bobbing for Baubles
- Sally Hansen The Real Teal
- Essence I Love Bad Boys
- W7 in a baby blue color whose name has detached from the bottle
- Australis Sweetpea

As you can see, a somewhat mint green had to make an appearance. I'm actually wondering if I could make a gradient with just mint shades. I might be shocked to find out I indeed can, but I will let you know as soon as possible.
Do you have any colors you'd like to see ombre-d ?

Nailed It: Sparkly Clouds

Today I'm feeling like spring and that means more blue sky and pretty clouds. Yesterday's Week In Pictures post had a gorgeous example of perfect skies in it, and the week before there was a lot of cloud action also, so you might have seen this coming. In my world, the natural progression of things is: see it, like it, put it on your nails.
So that is exactly what happened, there was just some added sparkle to this whole process.

the real teal sally hansen w7 blue mirror china glaze liquid crystal cloud spring sky manicure swatch nails

Sally Hansen's Real Teal is pushing itself into my spring foreground and it looks like it will be on my nails quite a bit in the near future.
I had seen this cloud-ish looking manicure on a lot of people and was under the very strong impression it was a hard thing to achieve. Until I realized how easy it actually was. So there was no stopping it anymore.
And in the picking of the polishes, the next surprise happened: W7 Blue Mirror and China Glaze Liquid Crystal look perfect together. It's like they have been created to work in glorious harmony. So why not exploit that, I say!

These two polishes really seem to be relatives, don't they? Probably something like the brother from another mother.
Teal, turquoise, any kind of strong blue that reminds me of the sky will become an instant favorite and will be sitting very nicely on the nails.
Hope you liked the little fluffy clouds sprinkled with glitter and I shall leave you with some more creations from the ladies, so your Monday becomes a bit prettier.

January Favorites

This month there's not so many favorites but they're definitely Most Used Products

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream: You can read the review by clicking on the link and I have to say, I didn't expect to like this so much. Was reluctant to getting a BB cream to begin with but I'm quite glad I did!

Vichy Waterproof Eye MakeUp Remover: Still loving it, especially combined with Bioderma Sensibio you can also see in the favorites. My review of the Vichy MakeUp Remover you can read clicking on the link above and I do believe that I have now found a pretty solid face routine that is amazing. I don't wash my face anymore with water because Bioderma covers that perfectly AND does not dry out my skin.
The little bottle you see here was the test size I got to see if I like it and just today I got the big bottle, which is a pretty big deal. I repurchase veeeery rarely.

Hema Eyeshadow Base: Review is on the way and I have to day, I have yet to find an eyeshadow base that is as amazing as this one. Absolutely loving it!

Catrice Gel Eyeliner: Still such a huge favorite. A holy grail product and especially in winter, that perfectly thick black line makes for an efficient, fast look.

Rosebud Strawberry Lip Salve: Two years in and still my favorite balm. I go back to this when everything else fails. And this one always delivers. But it's been getting increasingly hard to get hold of it,so if someone can give me a tip where to get it, I'd be VERY grateful!

Nail Polishes:  This month has been Glitter Revival Month and the W7 Silver Dazzle  has been great for it. You can see it in my post from Sunday with the Week in Pictures and I think you'll agree it looks fantastic.
Secondly I have this ancient Farmasi polish whose number has disappeared but that still is the best gold I have owned. You can see it in action in This Post.

These have been my favorites in the past month and I believe they'll be making more appearances.  How about you, any of your favorites mentioned here? What about new ones? I'm always searching for beauty goodies!

Half Framed Glitter Nails

Dear people, by the time you read this....I'll be at work. Yes,because it's Monday once more, but do not worry, for I have pretty nails to keep me company!

glitter and black halfmoon framed half framed nails w7 cosmic blue swatch

My "halfmoon-but not really-more like contour-or is it half a frame-can't put my finger on it" nail obsession started with me wearing a variation of these nails for New Year's Eve, in gold, that you can see HERE.
They're so easy to do and you can combine them in more ways than I can count. Not to mention how amazing they always look.
I prefer combining them with either a black or dark blue base and something metallic or glittery on top. The first post was golden, this time I'm showing you glitter.
W7 Cosmic Blue has got to be my favorite glitter polish. First up, it's a gorgeous shade of blue and secondly, it seems to look good with pretty much anything.
I just needed two coats to make this happen.

glitter and black halfmoon framed half framed nails w7 cosmic blue swatch

Of course, it's a bit tricky to make a half moon or any clear shape with glitter, because it's all over the place, but if you're not too fixated on small details, the end result looks pretty great I think.

I think you should prepare for more variations of these kinds of nails because I REALLY like them. I strongly suggest you give them a try yourself as they're easier to do than you'd think and the end result is gorgeous!

But enough about me, here are the other ladies who like blue nails on a Monday:

Little Bit Obsessed With Purple Nail Polish?

One usually doesn't notice how many things one possesses until you round them up and they stare you in the face.
Well until now, I was under the distinct impression that I had no proper purple/mauve/lilac/lavender polish. Then I decided to go check what I had in stock and this picture happened.

Catrice Heavy Metallilac , China Glaze Light as Air and the W7 Cosmic Mauve. essence no more drama rival de loop 22 swatches

I truly did not expect to have this many and as I kept finding more and more purple polishes I kinda became a bit puzzled as to why I was sure I had none to begin with.
If I were to pick, I'd say my top 3 are the Catrice Heavy Metallilac , China Glaze Light as Air and the W7 Cosmic Mauve.
The Essence No More Drama has been a good one in its prime but that is the kind of polish that turns thick faster than you'd wish.
Rival de Loop No 22 is a bit too sheer on the other hand. I still don't know why I got it, but I vaguely remember buying it with the clear conviction I had no such color. I think we can all see I was experiencing temporary dementia.
The Kallos polish that once had a number I'm sure, but now only has some long lost traces of it, is one of my all time favorite colors. It just didn't make it in my top 3 because it is too old and has gone to the thick side, which means, it also takes quite a bit to dry. But I remember when it was young and fresh and sometimes only needed one coat to look beautiful.

I believe, we have all concluded that I do indeed have enough purple polishes. Will this stop me from purchasing even more? That would be a definite no.

Is there any color like this that you also just feel the need to buy because you can never get enough of it?

Blue Polka Dot Nail Time

From the first time I did polka dots, I realized that they are my favorite things to have on my nails.

So today, in honor of the Monday blues we're doing, I made some blue on blue polka dots.Only after starting, I realized my trusty dotting tool was nowhere to be found so I used other alternatives. It will explain why the dots look less healthy than usual.

Each time I wear Essie Bobbing for Baubles I become more and more impressed with it. It is such a gorgeous color! And it just makes my hand look great whatever the length of my nails.
Speaking of my nails, they've been feeling particularly breaky over the past couple of weeks. Might be the fact that I'm swimming again and soaking them in chlorine,or the fact that it's a whole new kind of cold outside and I'm not a glove wearer. Either way, I need to fix them a bit and get them longer.

The polishes I used are Essie Bobbing For Baubles and W7 Baby Blue.
They really look good together and I'm starting to think that you can use this Essie polish for anything and would still look great.
Bobbing for Baubles is the new black for me. Definitely.

And if you want to see more blue nails, I do suggest you check out the other ladies going for Monday blues

When Your Nails Look Like Your Yogurt Drink

Well that was a weird title wasn't it? Ambiguous to say the least.
I hope you don't have horrific images of new life forms growing on someone's nails because that is not at all the case here.
The funny thing about what I'm about to show you revealed itself to me when I got to the office and was preparing to drink an Actimel (Danone, this is the time to pay me for the free name dropping).
Was about to open it when I realized my nails had a very similar texture and color(s) to the aluminum foil that sealed my yogurt drink.
I'm just going to let you see for yourself:

w7 moondust swatch actimel glitter nail polish

It looks kinda funny,doesn't it?
The nail polish I'm wearing here is W7 Moondust and it is a pretty polish, but you can't help but notice it has a tendency of looking like the yogurt cap.

w7 moondust swatch actimel glitter nail polish

Of course it has more colors and glitters and it looks really pretty, but I've had some people giggle at the similarity.
I will also show you a proper swatch of this polish, once my nails have grown to more decent lengths..

But tell me, is it just me or does this polish really have some Actimel cap in it?

Golden Polka Dot Nails

If you too are bombarded with winter decorations everywhere you look ( I even have globes over my desk at work as a matter of fact, placed there by an arguably suicidal climber), you probably have a rather festive color scheme in front of your eyes.
I'm noticing once again that I need a black polish, because I planned this manicure with black, but I think dark blue has worked much better this time, so behold, a little festive nail attempt:

Really awkward lighting going on here, because it looks like my nails have some bald spots, but in real life they are the perfect combination of cute and weirdly classic. Yes, classic polka dots, I said it.
I really like doing polka dots with these W7 glitter polishes because they end up like little glittery globes.
Last time I used one of them, it looked like rhinestones and you can check it out for yourself Here.

Here's also what I used for it.

We have  NYX Robotic and W7 Gold Dazzle.
I think I might try some more combinations with gold polka dots because I have a feeling it would looks very great with dark red nails.

But let me direct you to the other ladies who have been putting blue on their nails today also.

Metallic Half Moon Nails

This is the first time I try this, and  was meaning to do them with proper tools but ended up improvising big time.
For the record, these nails were created yesterday morning around 7am.
This half moon manicure is a challenge some Romanian bloggers had started and I said, why not? Had been meaning to do it for a while but always postponed it, so since I had a bit of a push this time, it finally came to pass.
nyx robotic w7 blue mirror half moon nails

I used NXY Robotic that I also showed you in the Halloween Nails I did and on top we have the now legendary W7 Blue Mirror I did a post on Here.
The idea was to have a light color on top and a dark one at the bottom. I think I succeeded quite well,no?
You don't want to know what served as half moon helpers, because even I was surprised they look this decent.
I do hope you like them though and I'm sure next time I do them you will see an improvement.
Going to have to do them on longer nails also, as I find this manicure to look best on long nails.

And here's also the other gals taking part in splitting moons in half :)

Rose Nails against Monday Blues

Feeling a bit less than cheery on Monday is bound to happen but luckily I have the cure! And it's cute.

A while ago I saw this rose nail on Islaay's Blog and really wanted to try it out myself. Well, I did!
And I know what you're thinking, roses are red, violets are blue, your ring finger is green, what's that got to do with the Monday and the blue?

Well it just so happens, my dear Watsons, that I did not forget the blue, thus adding some wee dots of baby blue on the rest of my nails!

See what I did there? I blued it!

I'm a bit in cute mode right now and the rose and the polka dots combine two kinds of cute that I really like having on my fingers.

I tried putting roses on all my fingers but it looked a bit crowded, so I just let it be an accent nail, but I will definitely be doing it again, with other color combinations too.
The thing is, my favorite polish color is mint green, so when given the chance, I will never pass on putting minty goodness on my nails.

Hope that cheered you up a bit, and in case you're still blue, I invite you to come check the blog tomorrow, because there's gonna be an overload of gorgeous autumn pictures and autumn goodies!

But until then, let's see what the other Monday Blues ladies did.

Monday Blues: W7 Blue Mirror

It's Friday,Friday, gotta get down on Fridaaaaaaaaaaaay!

No, wait...

Dammit!

Well since it's Monday and I'm very nicely behind my desk at work once more, I will treat you to some more blues.

This time, it's a "Mirror". At least that's what the people at W7 say. The polish is called Blue Mirror  and it's more foil than mirror to me.

w7 blue mirror nail polish swatch
I put it on last night and I didn't fully realize what it looked like. Now that I see it, I see it's got blue and silver glitter in it.
The texture is really cool because it reminds me of This China Glaze Polish but then it's much more thick and compact. And of course, it only has two color glitters in it.
The silver is very well mixed thought, I didn't even notice it until I gave it a proper stare in daylight.

See what I mean?

w7 blue mirror nail polish swatch

I know some people, including myself, after seeing swatches online, were convinced that this is more silver than blue, but I can assure you: Even if it's not as blue as in reality in these pictures, the polish IS blue.

I can tell you that it's one of those polishes you will want to stare at, I know I do it!

Hope your Monday is going great and I will see you in the same place, at the same time next week for some more of the blues.

And here you have the other ladies who painted the town blue today

Monday Blues: Rhinestone Nails

Well... not technically rhinestones, but glitter that if placed well, will look like you have little gems on your nails.

It's a bit less blue than other Monday Blues posts, but I like to think it's blue enough to brighten up some grumpy Mondays.

w7 cosmic blue and kallos rhinestone glitter manicure

I own a silver ring that has exactly 3 blue stones in the middle, and one day, while looking at it I started wondering why I don't do that on my nails too.

Initially I just wanted to put a regular blue on some silver looking polish, but then I remembered I have some great blue glitter I haven't used nearly enough ever since I got it..

And thus, the nails were born!
You can see that the first two fingers are a slight bit off center but I'll just blame it on artistry.

w7 cosmic blue and kallos rhinestone glitter manicure

Doesn't this glitter just look like rhinestones? I was very surprised to see what a gorgeous effect it had when I started dotting it around the nail.

I used W7 Cosmic Blue that I got together with every other W7 glitter I could find. Yes...someone has a glitter problem, I know.
I put it over a long lost Kallos silver polish whose name got lost along the way.Not from my own fault, but because they number their polishes and stick the number in quite an insecure manner on the bottom. One wrong move and off goes your number.Let's just call it "awesome silver".

So what do you think, do you like it as much as me? I've been looking at it and giggling for a while now, hehe.

With that being said, here's the other sisters in blue doing their magic:

Polish Days - Sentimental

One month passed and it means Polish Days again!

This month's theme is: Sentimental

That's a huge area I think and I don't really have polish related memories, basically because my memory is that of a snail (not slow, but vastly unreliable) , so I might have had some cool polish on for some events, but for the life of me, I cannot remember which.

That's why I went for the next best thing: Polish that makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.
As you may know, I'm a girl. I know, everyone was hoping there was a handsome guy behind this blog, using lipgloss and mascara but no. I'm sorry.

Because I am a girl, I like pink. We all do, you even agreed with me when I did my Pink Post you can read Here .
In any case, I like pink and pastels, so I decided to sentimentalize it a bit more and make a boy meets girl kind of thing.

Boy meets girl, boy likes girl, girl likes boy. They connect.

With that being said, I will show you how that works in polish terms, in my mind.

See what I did there? I connected them!

Monday Blues : Baby Blue and Polka Dots

Hey mMonday gals!

Today I present the sad story of a cute manicure in less than flattering lighting...

It was an autumn day, quite sunny in general but oh so short. It was around sunset that I realized the daylight was being lost. As much as I tried, time seemed against me and as it so happened, artificial light was all that remained. The horror! The pain!

I never liked artificial light and I never liked using the flash. That's why I didn't. But as much as I tried to make it work, it didn't live up to its cute potential. I can assure you they're so cuddly in person!

So here we go, baby blue with an accent polka dot ring finger in... *dum dum duuuum* Lightbulb Light!
I can hear you covering your mouth. Yes...I said lightbulb!

You can see the difference in lighting from one room to another, because yes, I tried 'em all.

The true color is, as usual, somewhere in the middle.
I'm thinking about redoing this post in daylight, maybe just for the sake of comparison and a very long discussion about how I like my light. ( Actually that's a short discussion: from the sun )

But there are some other lovely ladies who went all blue today, and here they are:

Metallic Polishes Top 5

This autumn, it seems to be all about metallic shades, especially what nail polish is concerned. The metallic comeback was more or less announced last year, when multi- and duochrome polishes started appearing.     ( Translation: polishes that have two or more clear color reflexes in them)

I'm glad to tell you, that many of last year's candidates have stayed with me and have become present favorites too. That's why, I'm going to show you my current Metallic Polish Top 5.

metallic chrome nail polishes catrice iron mermaiden mavala opi metallic mercury envy w7 in the bronx bronze green multichrome and duochrome

Off topic funny fact: I seem to be so fascinated by petrol looking metallics that I got 3 polishes in pretty much the same shade without realizing I do indeed have 3 too many now. But I don't mind, I can just do a comparison and see if you can tell the difference.

On we go with the TOP 5 then. I didn't put them in a particular order, as the favorites change by day and mood, so we shouldn't discriminate here.

metallic chrome nail polishes catrice iron mermaiden mavala opi metallic mercury envy w7 in the bronx bronze green multichrome and duochrome

Catrice  - In The Bronx

I did not expect the color I was going to get with this. I've used it in this Post and it is a stunning bronze with gold shimmers. To me, this color is the epitome of autumn. It's the shade that you get described in fairytales when they speak about how the nature transforms in autumn.

Catrice - Iron Mermaiden

This one was an even bigger surprise. I liked the way it looked in the bottle but when I put it on my nails I was amazed by the colors! It goes from silver to blue, to subtle green and up to a pinkish mauve. Absolutely incredible!
W7 - Metallic Mercury

As the name says, it's metallic and it tries to replicate the colors of Mercury. I find it to be pretty close to OPI's Every Month is Oktoberfest.

W7 - Envy

One of the petrol shades I was talking about, but  luckily, this one goes more into blue than it does into green. It still looks lovely on the nails and it's also a metallic that has a color which stands out. Most metallics tend to be somewhat dark, but this one clearly wants to make a statement.

Mavala - Bronze Green

The nice people of Mavala have named it perfectly. Bronze Green it is indeed. It actually looks a bit more green than in this picture when you wear it but if you want it darker, you can just go ahead and do an extra coat.
So here they are, my Metallic Top 5. I'm quite sure that during autumn, I will be stocking up on more metallics and I might be showing you a new Top 5 by the time winter hits.

What about you, have you tried any of these and what are your favorite metallics for the season?

Monday Blues: Glitter Tips

Guess what? It's Monday again!
And you know what that means? Means it's time for blue nails again!

Have to admit, I'm starting to wonder what I'm gonna do when I run out of blues? Might create my own polish then and show it off, hehe.

But on to today's show and tell. We have Manhattan No.78C and W7 Cosmic Blue.
I don't know if you remember Cosmic Blue from Here and the Manhattan polish from my little polish pile purchase (phenomenal alliteration!) Here.

The first time I tried putting glitter on my tips, it was with a purple polish and glitter and I ended up staring at my hands all day. Then I forgot to do it again and while looking through my stash today, I saw these two polishes and realized none had been tried on yet and both could work well together,so I figured 'why not!'

As it happens with some blues, they don't photograph like in reality so I had to tweak it in Photoshop. I will say it again, I never photoshop nail photos, because the main idea is to show the actual color of it, not to make it look surreal but pretty. But in this case, I needed to edit it for it to look like the real deal.

Of course, I then became artistic and used the sun as a prop. This is what it looks like:

Here's a picture of the polishes I used:  W7 Cosmic Blue and Manhattan No. 78C

The W7 is a mostly blue glitter, but has some silver and gold glitter flakes scattered around. As for the Manhattan polish, I was surprised to see it looks much more blue than in the bottle.

I really like the combo and will probably do it again. Have you ever played around with glitter on your tips?

Here's the other lovely ladies who turned blue today and their pretty nails:

Galaxy/ Starry Sky Nails: A Guide.

The whole thing started because I decided to give Galaxy Nails a try. I knew it was just a matter of sponging the Milky Way on but I just never felt like attempting it before.

So last night I did.
It was looking very promising until about step 3,when I decided to be less Milky Way and more like the pretty sky I could see outside.
It just took one move to confuse the galaxy that was in the making. I realized it only takes some well placed dark blue polish to ruin,in this case transform, this particular mani.

Here's what happened

Step 1 :  Apply black nail polish. This really can be any black polish,as long as it doesn't take forever to dry. Because as you will be sponging other polishes on it,if it hasn't dried, you will end up with black all over the place.

Step 2 :  Pick a white polish of your choice and sponge diagonally on the black nail, like so:
You can use any sponge, from make-up sponge,to cutting off a little piece of the kitchen sponge.

Step 3 : Apply the first color polish to the upper and lower edges of the white polish line. I used Catrice Iron Mermaiden, whose metallic multi chrome shimmer you can see. It's a bit messy, but I figured I'll clean it up at the end all together and not after each step.Would have been a bit useless to spend more time cleaning.

Step 4 : This is where Galaxy became Night Sky. If you want to keep the galaxy, you should sponge at the edges of the white line, keep some white visible, and create a nebula pattern. Well, I did no such thing.
I took the Catrice Blues Brothers Vol II and the W7 Metallic Mercury  and did some major cover-up work.
The blue is really effective in covering up,so if you're doing galaxy nails, use it sparsely or else it might ruin the galaxy. Also, make sure you use a small sponge when applying the blue,it can easily become too much.
I then put some glitter on it, a purple Saffron  in this case, and voila!

The End Result :

As far as night skies go,I'm liking the result quite a lot. Next time I will do a proper Galaxy Nail post and not get distracted by pretty stars shining outside.

Polish Days : Olympics

Polish Days are here!

This is my first time taking part in it,and this month's theme were of course....THE OLYMPICS !

When I think Olympics,my head goes straight to "Medals" .
That's why  Gold,Silver and Bronze had to be part of it,don't you think?

So here's what I did  :

The funny thing about it is,I had done another design prior to this, but my boyfriend thought it wasn't cool enough. As a result, the Gold,Silver and Bronze nails are his design.
You heard me:  A guy designed my nail art!
That has to be a first and I must say,his idea looks pretty great, doesn't it?

I really wanted it to be as shiny as possible, so I used  all glitters:W7 Gold and Silver Dazzle and a combo of Catrice In the Bronx base and Farmasi bronze glitter.
Speaking of glitters, some of THESE will be up for winning once I reach 100 followers on the blog.

Of course, because this year we have the Games in London, you can't just ignore the pretty flag now can you?
So I dedicated my thumb to it. Why my thumb? Because when you do 'thumbs up' you get the UK flag!
I consider it to be the best strategic position :)

Hope you like it,because I loved wearing it!
